Just in: FEC approves new employment scheme that will favour 60,000 youths

The minister of budget and planning, Udoma Udoma, has said that a new scheme that is targeted at creating employment for 60,000 Nigerians aged 18-25 years has been approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
Udoma made the disclosure on Wednesday, April 3, to State House correspondents at the end of FEC meeting, Premium Times report.
McCozar Blogspot gathers that the minister said the new scheme is called the N-Power knowledge multi-track youth empowerment programme.
According to him, 12,000 unemployed or under-employed graduates aged 18-25 years will be trained and given relevant devices afterwards.
The minister said after 12,000 graduates have been selected and trained, they would be empowered to train five other youths, leading to additional 60,000 jobs.
He added that N259,000 would be spent on each youth for the training while an additional 207,000 would be spent for work tools.
According to Udoma, the value of the programme is N5,595,669,250 with a completion period of nine months.
Meanwhile,McCozar Blogspot previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari said his administration had employed over 8.75 million Nigerians under various social investment programmes.
President Buhari, giving a breakdown of the figure, said seven million Nigerians were engaged under the N- Power scheme, which represented 70% of the targeted beneficiaries, while 1.75 million others were recruited under the National Safety Net Programme for the poor and the vulnerable.
This was contained in the president's remarks at the 28th convocation and 36th Founders Day ceremony of the Federal University of Technology Minna, Niger state, on Friday, February 1.
The president was reportedly represented by Professor Abubakar Adamu Rashers, the executive secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC). McCozar Report.
