Organizers explained that the calendar has been so designed not to interfere with the academic sessions of most Nigerian universities, of which 32 and expected to compete in 71 games. Vision Sports Management & Entertainment Company explained further that IBC is in furtherance of their successful organisation of the maiden Higher Institutions Football League (HiFL) last year. The company expatiated that the basketball version will involve federal, state and private universities, in a healthy competition that will accord Nigerian students several benefits. Also, the universities might be mandated to give free scholarship to reduce internet fraudsters, social vices and provide source of living for student athletes. In addition, all players in the IBC must not play professionally or play for a professional team while playing the IBC. The organisers tend to limit the eligibility to just student athletes and not players who play in the Nigerian league or other leagues in the world. And if an athlete turns professional after playing the IBC in the first season, he must withdraw his participation from the IBC before the commencement of the edition. No team is expected to pay any fee for participation and only students of each universities are eligible to play but there could be age limit. In curbing the use of mercenaries and other defaulters, the tournament organisers plan to work with the administrative arm of the schools to avoid the use of mercenaries. ⚫ TOURNAMENT FORMAT The IBC tournament will be divided into two conference based on geographical location(NORTH AND SOUTH) Which will be divided into sixteen teams per conference,each conference Will be divided into four(4) groups in which team in each group will be selected by a draw, making it four teams per group. The tournament which Will see three (3) teams qualify From each group and will advance to the playoffs ⚫ NOTE:3 point per win 2 point per loss ⚫ THE PLAYOFFS (wildcards stage conference) This stage will see the 1st runner-up and the 2nd runner-up face each other in their respective conferences.
