The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the immediate disbandment of the Federal SARS, Special Investigation Panel and Special Tactical Squad. Channels TV reports that the IGP announced this on Monday, January 21, at his inaugural conference with commissioners of police and other senior officers in Abuja. Details of the new development are still sketchy as at the time of filing this report. However, it may be recalled Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, directed the then IGP, Ibrahim Idris, to immediately overhaul the management and activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). Osinbajo said that based on the persistent complaints and reports on the activities of SARS that border on allegations of human rights violations, there should be overhaul of the management and activities of SARS to ensure that any unit that would emerge from the process should be intelligence-driven.
